Daily Bible Verse: James 2:14-17

14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

  1. Core to the Gospel … even though Luther called it “epistle of straw”. I would like to know what was going on when you decided to post these verses? But if you don’t want to comment, no prob … I am just curious. Again, good verses. Elaboration: for years I believe people have been critical of the Church in America because of what some people experience as a flimsy faith / lip service … If a church is not “doing” anything, then why would seekers want to come? Am I making sense?

    • I guess I posted it because I think that it important verse for people to ponder upon. The actions that a person does are evidence that your christian. I think some people believe that good works help you get into heaven, but those works only indicate that you know Jesus Christ, and have acknowledge that he is your savior. Works do not contribute to your salvation. I think this verse is quite similar to when Jesus was talking about you will know person by the fruit that they bear. So, I just think that people need to understand that our good deeds are an indication of who we serve, but those deeds do not contribute to our salvation, which comes solely from Christ’s sacrifice. I’m not sure about your last comment; if you could explain further that would be nice. Thanks for commenting.

      • Thank you for your taking time to give some of your heart and thinking to this is passage. As for my last comment. I think you may have answered …Here is what I was asking: if you think that this “faith without works is dead” correlates with the reality that those seeking a church body are looking for something other than just “talk”. Instead they are seeking something that is authentic, something that walks versus just talk. A church body is one part of who Christ is; and the Body of of Christ is found in a small group (even just two) who are spending time with with God, through prayer, worships, actively walking out their giftings on some level. Sorry for the ramble. Peace. T
